Custom center-lock wheels have been fitted along with gutted mufflers and test pipes in place of the catalytic converters . A September 2016 service at 22k miles included replacing all fluids, and the instrument panel was refurbished in December 2017. A California emissions test was reportedly passed four months ago

Yes I know, the owner probably put the cats back on before smogging it, as they come with the car (but not the stock wheels, sadly) as noted further down in the ad, its just funny listed like that.

So massive amounts of bullshit on that smog. It hasn’t passed smog in over two years.

Wait what?! You can buy a Testarossa for under 70k?! I thought these cars weren’t made for mere mortals! (Not that I have 70k laying around, but it’s not an absurd figure).

The black wheels are doing that car a disservice.

Hopefully it’s not someone in California because they won’t be able to register it.
The car hasn’t passed smog in over two years.

Hah, I totally forgot I could check that. Someone needs to post that in the BAT comments.

Wait a day. Its not 100% stock so it won’t reach the 6 figures its probably worth, but it’ll get close.

I was about to, but I don’t want to create an account. And if someone is that stupid I say more power to them. It would also be funny to see the seller get sued by a buyer in California because he’s liable to get the car to pass smog, not the buyer.

If they replace the cats?

Ohh alright. Might an unpopular opinion but even though those wheels might not look great on this car they’re still waaay better than the originals.

If they replace the cats and the car is in good running condition then it should pass.

The stock TR wheels aren’t the BEST but they fit the car if originality is at stake.
512TR wheels are a bit better:
512M with Hamann wheels are BEST:
But not these factory ones. Eww.

Do you see cars where it looks like the cats come out and go back in every two years?

No they’re usually just missing. I failed a car on Saturday that had the rear cats cut out. People think because it doesn’t turn on the CEL that it will pass.

Yeah. Well, people are dumb, some of them.
Roadkill/Engine Masters should do a show where they dyno a car and then replace the cats with “test pipes” and see how much performance difference it yields.

I saw a dyno test of something like this fairly recently. Don’t remember where. But no power was gained by removing cats. Late model car, less than ten years old.

I concur with AMG Tech. On modern cars there are no performance gains from doing that. That’s why I get so pissed off when I catch it.

My favorite response from assholes that do it is:”well it doesn’t need them.” So I guess Chrysler (they were both FCA’s) put an extra two cats on for shits and giggles?

That’s the newer wheel style used from ‘88. ‘87 model should have the 16" version that has center nut mounting (shown below). Up to ‘86 you could get a Testarossa with metric TRX wheels. They look pretty much identical to the 16" version. All are made of somewhat fragile magnesium alloy. The tires for the metric wheels are out of production.
The wheel under the black car seem to use stock looking center nut. Maybe original got damaged and owner got custom wheels machined using the bits from the original wheels? The splined center in the center nut wheel is a separate part so this should be easier than it sounds like.
Out of all these wheels shown in this page I would prefer the original style.

My only complaint about any of it is no dual exhaust in the vast majority of cases. And that entire moronic “cat back” muffler thing that just makes your car noisy...

Shall I get off your lawn now?
But seriously, I agree with your points, sort of. I have a noisy exhaust on my Mercedes, but it’s not loud all of the time, only when I punch it.
